Story of Fashion’s philosophy, is ‘To Touch Life’. To discover and find life’s newest global innovators, who’s creations enlighten us, impress our senses, challenge our wits, improve our lives. -Hikaru Kiyonaga
Story of Fashion® is a premium newsstand print boutique glossy, that reports on the paradigms and innovations in global culture, lifestyle, design, travel and style. We believe we’ve created a very special magazine that will become the first bridge of its kind, to marry investigative journalism, the art of the word, with some of the most ground-breaking works of photographic images created by our team of leading Canadian and global photographers, the art of imagery), to create a new kind of magazine that becomes a compendium to modern lifestyle, for an active demographic in search of more in depth information for everyday living, and an Experience that provides authenticity, a connection, and unique substance, not found in mainstream mass media.
We feel its important to keep developing a new kind of magazine that can fulfill what we see as an information gap, between mass media fashion and lifestyle magazines, that had it’s days but seen as superficial to our modern career oriented professionals, and then we have news based magazines that are too politically charged or can make anyone depressed at the end of a day.
We find, what’s needed is to apply serious journalism, amazing articles that spark the mind, to lifestyle, community and global culture changing events, in particular to report on the entrepreneurs, influencers that are currently introducing new ideas into the way we live. This includes stories on real estate, homes, architecture, interiors, business, interior design, hand made pieces, furniture and all things created with a personal touch, by human hands such as jewellery, wines, craft beer, and artisanal foods.
The energy and pace of the magazine is fast, for a demographic in need of quality information, that represents new upcoming trends, but also a treat of beautifully written stories and images to soak into on a patio, after a long day, over a glass of wine.
Story of Fashion™, is a report on ‘our story’…our newest story on how we live and fashion our lives. Which goes back to a quote by Coco Chanel, that fashion is not mere clothes, but is a word that represents how we live. This is about our story, the story of our global community, and carries an underlining tone to ‘Enjoy Life’, explore and appreciate the creativity we find by incredible people the world over.
The concept is a creation of our publisher Hikaru Kiyonaga, who is a Japanese Canadian artist, designer and metalsmith, alumnus of OCADU. Mr. Kiyonaga owns a 270 year old Aesops Fables in his book collection, and is a strong proponent of keeping the art and craft of book making alive and what it means to hold an actual book and its experience, opposed to assessing and clicking a tablet.
He is passionate, that the role of the printed book is the only format and the highest format that can give respect for the word and the art of imagery. That it is timeless and most befitting to hold the archive of our work, which talks about industries and individuals who create by hand. A complete experience, for the story of substance, from the interview to the piece, to the published book.
Editions are published in 9”x12” deluxe print size, and circulated at Chapters/Indigo, Whole Foods, newsstands across Canada and the US, select newsstands globally, with a digital versions available online in major app formats.
